Edmonton, Alberta, August 19, 2002 - Micralyne's Bruce Alton, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development for its Electronics and Telecommunications product line will be speaking at the COMS 2002 conference in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Wednesday, September 11th.
COMS 2002 is the 7th International Conference on the Commercialization of Micro and Nanosystems and is the only one of its kind. Its focus is:
- Commercialization challenges facing and winning strategies to be employed by MEMS and nano companies
- Strategic management of micro and nano technologies
- Paradigm shifts in micro and nano systems in high growth application areas as they apply to national and international firms that produce, market, and use MEMS and nano systems.
Over 300 MEMS industry leaders will attend COMS 2002 and Bruce will present at the conference's Entrepreneurship Session on Wednesday, September 11th on the topic of "Profitability as a Financing Option for MEMS Companies". This topic is generating significant interest given the volatile state of the MEMS industry and in the technology marketplace as a whole.
"It is an honor to speak at this conference," noted Alton. "For a MEMS conference, the thought and commercial leaders from around the world will be there and it always results in an open and frank discussion of the opportunities and challenges facing MEMS and microsystems companies".
Bruce will relate the experiences of Micralyne Inc. and how it has maintained its position as a continuously profitable and growing company since its inception as a private business in 1998. By instilling a "profitability mantra", Micralyne has developed a stable and growing business operation that is focused on the needs of its clients. As well, Micralyne has benefited from the instability of other MEMS companies - that are not profitable - as their clients have shifted their business to Micralyne.
He will also talk about the other benefits of the profitability mantra in terms of the company's culture, strategic decision-making, shareholder and employee morale, and corporate marketing and sales strategies.

About Micralyne
Micralyne develops and manufactures microfabricated and MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems)-based products. Micralyne is one of the largest independent companies in the world that manufactures MEMS in high volumes. MEMS technology is built on the premise of making industrial components smaller, faster and less expensive and facilitates radical improvements in the miniaturization of electronic and mechanical devices. These types of devices are used in many industries including communications, automotive, aerospace, and life sciences. More specifically, Micralyne’s micron-scale solutions (i.e. 1000 microns = 1 millimetre) are found in automotive emission sensors, optical switching technology in telecommunication networks, lab-on-a-chip devices for drug discovery, and commercial press equipment for printing today’s most popular magazines. Micralyne is a profitable and growing company headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
