20+ Year MEMS Industry Veteran Dr. John Harley Joins Micralyne

Edmonton, AB, June 2, 2016Micralyne Inc., a leading manufacturer of Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS), today announced that Dr. John Harley joins the company as vice president of technical marketing and business development. Following the recent announcement of Ian Roane as CEO and Mike Ciprick as CFO (see “Micralyne Expands Executive Team with the Appointment of New CEO,” May 19, 2016), Dr. Harley’s appointment further reflects Micralyne’s commitment to serving the fast-growing demand for MEMS and sensors.

The market for MEMS will reach $20B by 2021, according to the market research firm Yole Développement[i], with compound annual growth rate (CAGR) at 8.9% from 2015-2021. The global market for sensors is even larger. Research firm BCC Research predicts that sensors will reach nearly $154.4B by 2020, representing a CAGR of 10.1% between 2015-2020.

“Micralyne is at the sweet spot of providing MEMS and sensors’ solutions for applications that are surging: IoT, biomedical devices, optical connectivity and industrial controls,” said Ian Roane, CEO of Micralyne. “Providing maximum advantage to our customers in these markets requires a market-focused team that understands the technical requirements of the industry. And that’s why I am so pleased that John Harley has joined Micralyne as our VP of Technical Marketing and Business Development. Leveraging his extensive experience in the MEMS industry, John will support direct customer interaction in the areas of process integration, technology roadmaps and focused market solutions. He will help to engineer elegant and efficient designs that represent the most advanced manufacturing capabilities for our customers in the biomedical, optical and industrial markets.”

Dr. Harley brings more than 20 years in the MEMS industry to Micralyne. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Product and Process Engineering at Innovative Micro Technology of Santa Barbara, CA, where he worked for more than 13 years. Prior to that, he held the position of business development at Coventor, where he focused on modelling solutions for microfluidic and life science applications. Dr. Harley earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

“The Micralyne engineering team has extraordinary technical depth and customer focus,” said Dr. Harley. “The chance to extend these qualities to prospective customer engagements and to help set the direction for future technical market advancements led me to accept this challenging and exciting position. Through process integration and application support, I plan to accelerate the path from design concept to mass production for Micralyne’s customers.”
